Frequently Ask Questions

1. What is the minimum age?
A. Students must be 16+ years of age.

2. How long in advance do I have to enroll in my course?
A. You can enroll in your course one week in advance if there is a class available. We advise you to make your bookings well in advance because our classes can be full up quickly. You also need more time if you need to apply for a visa.

3. How long does it take me to get my acceptance letter?
A. Once we received your application form with the payment we will prepare your Certificate of enrolment and other requested letters in a couple of days.

4. How can I pay?
A. You can pay by cash (in person), cheque, Bank Draft or by bank transfer.

5. Can I get a refund if I cancel my course?
A. Please see our terms and conditions.

6. Can I pay my course fee in installments?
A. We offer an easy payment plan for our students enrolled for at least one year course.

7. Can I cancel my course?

8. Do you offer part-time courses?
A. No, we do not offer part-time courses.

9. Do you offer evening courses?
A. No, we do not offer evening courses.

10. How long can I study for?
A. This depends on the course that you would like to study. Our counseling team will advise you regarding the course and the course duration.

11. How many hours per week will I study?
A. Minimum 15 hours for full-time courses. You can also do an intensive course and study more than 15 hours per week.

12. Can I change my course?

13. How many weeks holiday am I entitled to?
A. Maximum authorised holidays are as follows:

12-23 weeks study period: 2 weeks
24-35 weeks study period: 4 weeks
1 year study period : 6 weeks

14. I am from a non-EU country. Will I be able to work in London?
A. Yes. Every national from a non-EU country, with a student Visa can work up to 20 hours per week during course time and unlimited hours during vacation/holidays. It is important to note that students who enter the country on tourist/visitor Visas cannot work until they change their Visa. I am from an EU country; will I be able to work when I am not studying? All EU nationals can work in the UK without any restrictions.

15. Can Guildhall College help me find a suitable part time job?
A. We are regularly notified by agencies looking for part time employees and these are posted on the welfare notice board. In addition our Student Support Advisor can give advice about agencies, newspapers and magazines where suitable jobs are advertised.

16. Do I need to get a National Insurance number to work?
A. Yes. We strongly recommend that you seek employment only with those employers who work within the National Insurance framework. This will also give you sickness and holiday rights.

17. Will Guildhall College help me get the National Insurance Number?
A. We can provide you with the necessary documentation to obtain a National Insurance Number, provided you have a student Visa or are a EU national.

18. Do I need a visa if I live in part of the EU?
A. No. The United Kingdom is a member of the European Union and nationals of other EU countries do not require Visa to study and live in the UK.

19. I am from a non-EU country; do I need a Visa?
A. Yes. Ideally you should apply for a student visa prior to travelling to the UK, but for nationals from certain countries it is possible to obtain visitor visa at the port of entry to the UK, for example at the airport. If you are not sure what to do - simply contact us or the British Embassy in your country.

20. Is it possible to extend my Student Visa?
A. Depends on your nationality. If you are not sure, please e-mail or fax your details to us or seek advice from the British Embassy.

21. Where do I get a visa, if I am not in the UK?
A. You must apply to the British embassy in your country with a college acceptance letter and with evidence that you can support yourself, either by: -� Acceptance Letter from College� Arranging accommodation including food for your stay � Showing that you have enough money to support yourself with a bank statement.

22. I am worried about getting a student visa, how can Guildhall College help?
A. We can help you by giving you good advice based on our experience. We are able to help the students effectively.For further guidance and information please go to International Student section.

23. If you received a tourist Visa on arrival what happens?
A. Certain countries including Switzerland, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Brazil, Mexico, Panama, Mauritius and Argentina can receive up to a six-month tourist visa on arrival. You may study but you may not work.This can be changed to a student visa by applying to the Home Office. Get the correct application printed off the Internet and send in your application before you visa expires. This may take some time and it is possible it could be denied. A new visa should be applied for in the country of the person applying - you may have to go back home to begin a new visa application.
